Drugstore beauty buys

When it comes to budget beauty buys you can really find some great products that perform just as well as high end products.The drugstore can be overwhelming at times, that’s why it’s important to do your research! The site ‘Makeup Alley’ comes in use when referring to product reviews. It gives each product a 1-5 star rating and users can add their own reviews! I find it very helpful when I want a non biased opinion.

Revlon make great products that perform just as well as most high end brands, I am currently a big fan of their Color burst lip gloss in ‘Bellini’. Bellini is a milky toned peach gloss with slight shimmer. It looks equally as beautiful applied alone or over lipstick.

Drugstore skincare can be more challenging, as most drugstore products don’t contain a good SPF as well as beneficial ingredients . The Olay Total effects daily moisturizer is one of my favorites as it’s Non-Comedogenic, oil free and has a ton of antioxidants.

When buying a moisturizer it’s always important to try to find one that does more than just hydrate your skin but if you are just in the market for a moisturizer that just hydrates the skin, then I would recommend Cetaphil as it is fragrance free and contains no lanolins or parabens.

Splurging on items such as mascara is a ‘no no’ as they dry out within 3 months. Maybelline and L’oreal make some of the best mascara I’ve tried. L’oreal Telescopic and Maybelline The Rocket volum’ Express are some of my top picks!

Makeup at the Met Gala

If you think the smokey eye is just made for black eye shadow, think again! Last night’s Met costume gala called for some stand out eye looks and with a theme like Punk:Chaos to Couture it’s not hard to see why all the makeup looks were so bold. Kristen Stewart’s makeup artist used a Cranberry Red with Black kohl pencil to define around the eyes while Elle Fanning went all out with a colorful winged eye shadow blended up to the brows.

Welcome to Emerald City

Pantone declared emerald green the color of the year, and we couldn’t love their decision more! What gave the capital city of Oz its signature color is making a comeback!

Executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, describes this lush shade of green as “vivid, verdant and promoting balance and harmony”. Eiseman assured us that emerald can be easily applied to your wardrobe as well as to your interior design. Emerald is making its debut in many designers’ Spring 2013 collections, such as Tracey Reese and Nanette Lepore. Sephora is launching a 2013 Color of the Year Collection, appearing on shelves in March. Home good retailers, such as JC Penney, are incorporating Pantone Emerald into their product lines this season through bedding, accessories, pillows and towels.

Although retailers and designers have embraced Pantone’s color choice, this bold definitely received some mixed reviews in the fashion community. What do you think? Will you be “going green” in style this season?

Makeup Bag Organization

Sometimes our makeup bags can turn into a complete disaster area!

Despite our good intentions and efforts to stay organized, makeup bags turn into a lump of mixed up makeup that leaves us digging and searching for that lip gloss or eyeliners we need.

Organizing a cosmetics case, however, can be quick and easy and save you lots of trouble when you’re on the go.

To get everything in order, empty the entire makeup bag to see what you have in there. Many times, it ends up filling up with a bunch of things that you don’t even need. Separate what needs to stay in there from what can come out. Remember to be picky! Only carry around things you think you’ll actually end up using and leave the rest at home to avoid clutter.

Fill your makeup bag with items that you use on an everyday basis and keep them orderly and clean. Through out any old mascaras and try to get makeup that is “two in one” in order to consolidate.

Finally, maintain your case on a regular basis! At least once weekly, clean it out quickly and reorganize to keep everything in it’s place and easy to access.

Drew Barrymore Beauty Line in Bloom

Have you heard about Drew Barrymore’s new makeup line?!

As if the star isn’t famous enough, with a career that spans over three decades as well as directing now under her belt, she has recently launched a makeup line that we’re nuts for!

The name of the line is Flower, and it will launch in Walmart stores in January. This is great news! Not too long of a wait!

Keep a look out for this makeup which is “luxurious” but at realistic price points, as low as under five bucks.

How to Rock the Pantone Color of the Year

The Pantone Color of the Year has been announced and it is…..drumroll please…..emerald!

Emerald is such an elegant color and can be worn in a myriad of ways as far as makeup goes.

One of the cutest ways to rock this glam color is to do up your eyes in emerald shadow. Then, accentuate the color with accent jewelry pieces such as a statement necklace or earrings highlighting the color!

Expect to see emerald all over this upcoming year and be prepared to sport it!

How Crazy is too Crazy?

How crazy would you get with your eyeliner? Would you go bold or are you more of a classic kinda gal?

There are some crazy eyeliner trends out there! From wings to electric colors in lieu of your standard black or brown, there are many different ways to wear the liner that are on the rise.

Hyper extended eyeliner on the top lids is a new thing, as is truly bold, thick lines. Even drawn on lashes have been seen on some celebs!

Go for the Gold!

Especially with the holidays coming up, a great color to adorn your eyes with is gold. Not only is gold a hot look, but it’s also as fabulous as can be, for several reasons at that!

First of all, it will warm up any skin tone. Next, it has many colors that accent it well, for instance a bright red lipstick is a great pairing or even fuchsia pink cheeks.

Gold can also be used to make a statement or portray a more subtle and flirty look, if that’s what you’re going for. This look can be sheer and glittery or have more of a copper, metallic feel. However you choose to wear the gold, be sure to rock it and show it off this season!
