Matte Mani

Have you tried a matte mani yet?

We are starting to see them all over, and we think that they are a great trend for spring!

With bright colors, matte can be a great way to do something different with your nails that deviates from the normal, glossy mani that you usually get at the salon.

You can even wear this look with a french manicure feel with matte in the body of the nail and shine at the top. What a cool look!

This is a super trendy beauty look that you’ll be happy you tried!

Glam Nails for Rent

Have you ever found buying nail polish to be a little bit too expensive? I mean, getting the good stuff will cost you a minimum of $10 a bottle, if not much, much more.

For that reason, Lacquerous is a new service that allows you to rent polishes so you can use lots of colors, but now have to actually purchase them. How genius is that?!

For $18 a month, you get to choose three designer polishes to rent. The site features brands such as Chanel, Butter, Nars, and MAC and they have tons of uh-may-zing colors!

Signing up for this is a great way to save money, use and sport top brands, and look absolutely fabulous!

DIY Cheetah Nails

I hate to honk my own horn, but I’m sort of a DIY nail guru. It’s not that I’m some great nail artist or anything. I just see a new design, fall in love, and simply must try to recreate the look myself. This past summer I was looking at my sister’s Sally Hansen Salon Effects (the stickers) in a cheetah print and thought, I can totally do that myself. Two bottles of nailpolish and an hour later, I had fabulous cheetah nails. I got stopped so many times about how great they looked and it made me so proud to say I did them myself. I’ve since recreated the look a few times, and I have to say that it’s one of the easiest designs I’ve ever done. Anyone could do this with the right instructions… And that’s what I’m here for.

What You Need:

  • Two complementary colors of nail polish (Mine are OPI Gargantuan Green Grape & OPI Cajun Shrimp)
  • Clear nail polish
  • A toothpick or fine paintbrush
  • Sally Hansen Nail Pen in black

If you don’t want to buy the nail pen (although I must say, it’s a great investment), you can use:

  • Black nail polish
  • An extra toothpick or another fine paintbrush

Step1:

Paint your nails a solid color. I did two coats for best color quality. Allow the color to fully dry.

Step 2:

Use your toothpick or fine paintbrush to paint polka dots on your nails. Leave some space around each dot. Wait for the color to dry.

Step 3:

This is the only hard step. Using the Sally Hansen Nail Pen or black nail polish, you are going to outline the polka dots. Looking at something cheetah print, like a shirt that I have, really helped me on this step. The best ways to outline the polka dots are either to go 3/4 of the way round the circle or to make two lines on opposite sides of the polka dot.

The best part about this step is that cheetah looks more real when it’s messy, so if you’re hands aren’t too steady, it’s okay.

Step 4:

Use your discretion to fill in any overly empty spaces by putting black dots or lines. Again, be a bit messy. You can look at the pictures above to see how I added the black spots. As always, wait for nails to dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 5:

Top your look with a clear coat so your nails remain fierce.

Voilà!

You are officially cheetah-licious and look fabulous. And now that you know how to do cheetah print, you can create your own variations: interesting color combinations, different shapes, a cheetah version of a French-tip. There are so many fun, creative ways to paint your nails but cheetah print is one of my favorites!

Facial Cleanser

Washing your face at the end of the night is the most important regiment of the day.  Step 1 of the process is the makeup remover.  I’ve tried all kinds of expensive makeup remover, but to this day, I must say that the best one out there is the Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover.  Often times, I find that products are not able to remove water-proof eye makeup properly, but one swipe with Neutrogena and it’s all gone!  No need to spend tons of money getting luxury brand makeup remover.  Neutrogena works better than all and it’s more affordable!  Plus, you can always rely on Neutrogena to be safe and gentle for your skin.  I’ve noticed that some makeup remover stings to use around my eye area, but I’ve never had a problem with Neutrogena.

Then, comes the washing of the face.  Experts say that there is no need to spend a lot of money on facial cleansers.  Drugstore brands work just as well as luxury brands and if not better.  Expensive brands often times are more expensive not because of the ingredients, but because of the packaging or marketing hype.  The important factors to look for in facial cleansers include:

  • Doesn’t irritate the skin or eyes
  • Should make your skin feel clean
  • Should remove makeup without a need to scrub
  • Should not dry out skin

My personal favorite facial cleanser from drugstores:

Neutrogena Foaming Cleanser

My favorite from Sephora:

Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash

Bliss is my favorite out of all though because it makes me feel so fresh and smells amazing!  The first time I discovered it was at the W Hotel and since that day, I’ve only used this face wash.  I definitely suggest you to try this product out!  Plus, it’s one of the most affordable facial cleanser that Sephora offers.

Go Natural

Did you know… evidence shows that people consumed tea leaves steeped in boiling water as many as 5,000 years ago?!  Hundreds of millions of people drink tea around the world today, and studies suggest that green tea in particular has many health benefits.  Green tea is made from non-fermented leaves and reportedly contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols, which makes green tea better than the two other types of tea, black and oolong.

Clinical studies suggest that green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat.  One study confirmed that the combination of green tea and caffeine improved weight loss and maintenance in overweight and moderately obese individuals.  Also, drinking green tea has been found effective in small clinical study for dental caries, or tooth decay.  The antioxidants are also known to be amazing for the skin, especially with helping blemishes.  Hence, what I normally do is drink a cup of green tea every day and then take the tea leaves from the tea or the tea bag and press it onto my face for about 5 minutes.  Go to the grocery store now and get yourself some green tea!  Make sure that the green tea you purchase is all natural.

Also, try Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel (can be purchased at Sephora), which contains green tea.  It gently-yet-thoroughly purifies, refines the look of pores, and leaves the skin feeling fresh and comfortable.  It is free of harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, GMOs, Triclosan, and Phthalates.

If you have not tried a 4-step buffer, you must do so now.  Go get yourself one at any drug store or make up store like Sephora.  They are all bound to have this item.  The 4-step buffer is the miracle worker for when you don’t have time to paint your nails and wait for them to dry.  Using it makes your nails look nice and shiny, as if you did paint your nails.  All you need to do is file down your nails to the shape and length that you want during step 1.  Then, you go through step 2-4 to make the top of your nails shiny.  You’ll be amazed with the results if you have never tried using these.

Ladies, summer is the season for vibrant colors!  Dark nail polish is SOO out and it’s time for the bright colors and the pales to make appearances!  I am absolutely obsessed with having perfect nails.  It’s one part of my body that never gets significantly messed up, which I love.  I paint my nails twice a week before I go to bed so that I don’t walk around New York City with unattractive, chipped nails.  Last thing I’d want is someone thinking that I don’t take care of myself!  Now, painting nails is not an easy thing.  It’s one of the most TIME CONSUMING activities in the world!  Seems like it takes forever sometimes for my nails to dry, especially because I always have a rule-3 coats.  However, here’s a product that I was skeptical about using that you must get because it completely changed my life, yes, my life:

Nail Colour Drying Drops

Cuts drying time for your newly painted nails by tenfolds.

Here’s some of the best shades from Sephora by O.P.I. for this summer!

Techno Girl

Arm Candy

Caliente Coral

IM Beauty

Havana Dreams

Caribbean Cocktail

They will look great with your tan!

One of our favorite nail polish brands, Essie, makes irresistibly pretty shades that have some serious lasting power. So we were thrilled when we found their “prom-tastic” shades , which are great for a night out, whether clubbing or heading to senior prom.

These polishes are great compliments to cocktail dresses and gowns, feminine and gorgeous without being overpowering. The variety of shades means there’s something for every type of girl, whether an edgy fashionista (“Damsel in a Dress” is your best bet), or a girlie-girl (“Adore-A-Ball” is just your style). Plus, not having to worry about chipping is a big plus on big nights out. They are $8, so these durable polishes are a good deal; the biggest problem will be choosing which one to wear!  This Haute PR Beauty Babe loves “Tomboy No More” and “Spaghetti Strap” especially. Which do you love?
