Our Top Picks – Printed Shorts!

As Summer approaches and the temperature rises, it becomes more challenging to dress both stylish and practical. I see myself more of  ’Winter girl’ as I enjoy investing in one item such as a coat. When Summer rolls around I just have no idea what to wear without looking too plain! My drawers are filled with plain cotton tanks and T-Shirts from J.Crew and Gap but when paired with a simple skirt or short the look just doesn’t cut it.

On the subject of print I have only ever worn a floral dress and that’s the closest I have gotten in terms of a ‘print’. On one of my recent shopping trips I found some great printed shorts that look great just about paired with anything! I am a big fan of Banana Republic shorts, they have a great variety of fits and styles and they are very true to size. If you on more of a budget Gap make some great shorts too! Maxi dress to the rescue!

Dressing comfortably in this summer heat feels pretty hopeless at times, but trust us maxi dresses are the answer! Not only are these dresses extremely roomy and comfortable but they come in so many cute patterns and shapes. Now you don’t have to spend hours looking at your closet wondering what to wear to work, the beach, or a fun summer party. Maxi dresses make everyone look very put together and seasonal! With this day in age we are on our cell phones constantly. We carry them around when we go out at night with our friends, when we are on the subway, walking to work, texting etc…so who says you shouldn’t accessorize it properly? Bangles & Headbands, Summer Prep Essentials

Summertime is right around the corner (yay)! Living in New York City, it’s hard to come across classically preppy summer accessories, especially since hipsters are totes taking over. Getting away from the city and sipping bloody-mary’s on Navy Beach with my babies, Bruiser & Paris, is the most active I want to be on  Saturday afternoons. However, lately I’ve noticed that my fellow fashionistas have been lagging in their beach accessory wear. Sure, anyone can throw on a Missoni sarong and a pair of Ray-ban aviators and call it a day, but I totally miss the long lost days of Jackie-O and Audrey Hepburn. I’m sick of seeing all these Rihanna-esque wannabes with bangles up to their elbows and Louis Vuitton Monogrammed Scarves wrapped around their sun-dried hair. Buttons, Buttons Everywhere

So you have that collection of buttons that you don’t need and don’t know what to do with them, well here is a fun and easy way to turn buttons into fashion!

 

The Statement Ring

Materials: Buttons, Clippers, Glue, Rings With Flat Tops (available at the jewelry supply store)

Use your clippers to remove the shank from the back of the button.

 

Once you’ve made the back of the button flat, use an ample amount of glue to secure the ring to the back of the button.

Here’s another hint: If you can’t find a flat ring base, Ring Pops are a fun alternative. After you’ve removed the candy and cleaned the ring base,  grab your Kylon spray and paint it.

 

Once the base has dried, glue on the button.

There you have it, a fun and fast way to turn ordinary buttons into fashion!

Spring 2011 Fashion Trend: Paintings as Dresses!

We were blown away by Mary Katrantzou’s Spring 2011 Collection. Her dresses make it appear as if you are wearing a mural! They really are like nothing we have ever seen before! The colors are vibrant and the various styles and fits are plentiful. Many of the digital print designs on the dresses look like the interiors of exquisite homes and hotels. You really have to see it for yourself to appreciate the uniqueness of Mary Katrontzou. All the dresses are printed with images of lavish hotel and stateroom interiors—and embellished with interior-decorator braid, tassels, and fringe trimmings. She’d digitalized photos from vintage copies of Architectural Digest and The World of Interiors while enhancing the color and taking advantage of the intricacies of home furnishings. Her dresses in the Spring 2011 collection are a bit pricey ($900+) but they are certainly beautiful to look at!

Ballerinas are Back!

Due to the popularity of the award-winning film, “Black Swan,” ballerinas have been showing up everywhere! The sexy ballerina is on the runaway and on the high street in stores such as Top Shop and ASOS. Ballet pumps and hair buns are making a huge comeback! The innocent ballerina is out, and the sexy, upgraded dancer is in! Trade in your pink leotard for black lace or leather. Designers such as Chloe, Marchesa and Richard Nicholl have embraced the new ballerina style in their 2011 collections. The long flowing skirts made from the sheerest of chiffons and the tight pink leotards which hug our figures beautifully without clutching any of the wrong areas definitely make the cut. But since the release of “Black Swan” the ballerina trend has taken a new turn and now exudes a sexy, raw, and stylish energy. Ballerinas are here to stay!
